Deborah Sander
MA (Oxon), MA (Open), PGCE, Dip Psych, MEd Psych, Dip CBT.
HCPC Registered Psychologist.

Member of the British Psychological Society and the Association of Educational Psychologists.

When I graduated from Oxford, where I studied Physiological Sciences (pre-clinical medicine), I decided to train as an infant teacher. I have taught young children in Nigeria and in Tottenham, undergraduates in Brighton, postgraduates from Bristol and Cardiff and for 10 years I taught A level Psychology in Somerset. In 2013 I taught clinical psychologists and paediatricians in Dar es Salaam.

I was a psychologist with Reading Borough Council for 11 years.

My principal interests and expertise are in autism and in children's mental health. In 2008 I was the first therapist working with children to take the post graduate diploma at Reading University and since then I have used cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to help young people with conditions including selective mutism, school refusal, anxiety and depression.

I prefer to work collaboratively with the child, the family and the school. The unhappy child cannot learn and the child who cannot learn becomes unhappy.
